Joe has been named Futurist of the Year by Shaping Tomorrow’s Foresight Network, one of three futurists so honored by the respected futurist web portal.

U.K.-based Foresight Network, which has 2,400 members internationally, calls itself the "most comprehensive, in-depth single source website for foresight, perspective, innovation and risk management."

"The selection process has been simple, truly democratic and bottom-up," says Myles Hopkins, the network’s chairman, in a press release. "When becoming a Foresight Network member, every neophyte is asked whether s/he would like to name one or more futurists as having had important influences on them," Hopkins says. Those named most often were honored as Futurist of the Year.

Joe shares the honors with Hazel Henderson, an evolutionary economist and advocate for equitable, ecologically and sustainable human development, and Jim Dator, the director of the Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies at the University of Hawaii.

"It is fitting that Joe has now joined Hazel and Jim in being chosen by fellow futurists as the first 'Laurels' awarded by members. These three have contributed so much to the field of futures thinking and it’s an honor for me to present them with this recognition," says Hopkins. He also said the Foresight Network is establishing a futurist "Hall of Fame including past luminaries."
